AMAZON is inventing 3D Internet ?

Publié le 4 Décembre 2020 par New3S dans virtual room, two-dimensional screen, 2D screen, 3D Internet, patent, smartphone, three-dimensional (3D) interface, three-dimensional interface, 3D interface, 3D view mode, 3D space

AMAZON is inventing 3D Internet ?

Surfing the internet can be real fun. You can reach to a whole new world with just a few taps on your smartphone’s screen. However, locating a desired content over the internet (or even on a webpage) can be really difficult. The webpages usually include a plethora of information that is useless most of the time and covering a majority of your smartphone’s screen space. For example, advertisements, every so often, can take a significant screen space on your smartphone or sometimes can even cover the entire screen of your smartphone leaving only a tiny space for you to consume any useful content.

However, with a new patented technology from Amazon, you will be able to interact with webpages on your smartphone in a more personal way. A two-dimensional (2D) screen of your smartphone will be converted into a three-dimensional (3D) interface where the content of the webpages on your smartphone’s screen will appear to be real objects. Further, the 3D interface for web-browsing will be truly captivating as it allows you to explore the webpage in a more intuitive way (such as by tilting or rotating your phone) rather than just scrolling a webpage up or down for exploring the webpage.

In other words, the internet will be converted from a textbook with 2D pages in to a video game with cool 3D interfaces.

BRIEF OVERVIEW:

As per the patented technology, a webpage on your smartphone’s screen will be converted into the 3D interface (as shown in figure 1 above) with different contents (such as links, advertisements, article text etc.) of the webpage to appear with different heights and depths. Further, the 3D interface of the webpage will change according to an orientation of the smartphone with respect your line of sight (as represented with figure 2 above).

TECHNICAL DETAILS:

You can enable a 3D view mode on your smartphone by tilting, shaking, or even squeezing your smartphone in order to convert a 2D webpage into a 3D interface. When your smartphone operates in the 3D view mode, one or more elements (such as links, advertisements, article text etc.) of the webpage will be caused to appear to be positioned and/or displayed in 3D space in different heights. The height of each element relates to what content you are most interested in. For example, the most important part of an article can be raised so it is the largest and easiest to read. Less important content can be moved backward in 3D space. For example, advertisements can appear recessed from the display screen. Further, in order to realize which content to be shown with what height or depth on the webpage, the 3D interface will use your user profile data. Your user profile data includes information such as your browsing history or other user-based preference information. Further, tilting your smartphone will allow you to see some additional content such as a link for sports, business, and a calendar page that may be stacked below the main article text (as shown in figure 3 above). The 3D interface uses sensor data to provide such interface. Further, the sensor data may include data sensed by sensors such as a camera sensor, motion sensor, location sensor etc. that is embedded within the smartphone.

Further, to improve readability, appearance, and/or access to the content, the webpage can be converted into a virtual room (as shown in figure 4 above) where the content is distributed on multiple walls of the virtual room. Further, as a user of the smartphone tilts, rotates, translates, flicks, or otherwise changes a relative orientation of the smartphone, a display of the content will be adjusted to provide a view of a different one of the walls. For example, when the user rotates the smartphone counterclockwise around an axis (as shown in FIG. 4B above), the rotation of the smartphone will cause the content displayed to shift accordingly (e.g., a wall that includes advertisement will appear). In this way, the user will focus on one wall or surface at a time and can shift the content into focus with a movement of the device.

Amazon : un smartphone 3D ? Amazon is definitely preparing to release a smartphone with 3D capabilities

Amazon : un smartphone 3D ? Amazon is definitely preparing to release a smartphone with 3D capabilities

New rumors have resurfaced, claiming that Amazon is definitely preparing to release a smartphone with 3D capabilities

If you are a fan of the Amazon Kindle and the company in general, we have one very exciting rumor for you to enjoy over the weekend. New rumors have resurfaced, claiming that Amazon is definitely preparing to release a smartphone with 3D capabilities. Even more interesting, the 3D is thought to work similar in a way which the glasses-free Nintendo 3DS functions as well.

While these kinds of rumors involving high profile devices are usually taken with a pinch of salt, you’ll want to know that the claims have surfaced from The Wall Street Journal – who are claiming it as a fact. According to their unnamed sources ‘familiar with the matter’, the device is going to be targeted at the high-end market and will even come with some innovative eye-gesture features.

These eye gestures could offer the user the option of navigating through smartphone menus, solely with the eyes and nothing else – amazing if true. While it is perhaps risky to be delving into the 3D space once again, we’re definitely excited to see a big name company give the tech one last shot.

Amazon themselves have refused to comment on the rumors, but don’t be surprised if we see a private event announcement in the coming weeks, as WSJ wouldn’t treat it as fact if they were not confident. While Samsung are concentrating on offering bigger and bigger displays with their ever-popular Galaxy Note range, would it be a bit of an industry shock if we see Amazon come out of nowhere with a glasses-free 3D phone?

If it has a similar price bracket to the Kindle tablet, then consumers will certainly take notice – even those who are yet to buy into the so-called 3D craze. It is early details yet, but give us your initial reaction to this, should it become a reality.

Amazon 3D Smartphone: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Amazon 3D Smartphone: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Amazon 3D Smartphone: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

1. One of the Smartphones Will Have A 3D Screen

According to the WSJ, one of the smartphones Amazon is developing will have a 3D screen. Here's what WSJ's Greg Bensinger said about Amazon's rumored eye-tracking technology, which could be implemented in the 3D screen as well:

"One of the devices is a high-end smartphone featuring a screen that allows for 3-D images without glasses, these people said. Using retina-tracking technology, images on the smartphone would seem to float above the screen like a hologram and appear three-dimensional at all angles, they said. Users may be able to navigate through content using just their eyes, two of the people said."

2. There's Already Been a 3D Phone, and It Didn't Do Well

Business Insider's Jay Yarow notes that HTC made a 3D phone already, back in 2011. Called the EVO 3D, the phone wasn't well received and HTC didn't want to create a follow up. An HTC rep told CNET why the firm decided not to create a follow up device:

"I wouldn't say 3D was necessarily dead, I mean never say never, but we don't have any new products with 3D in the lineup. That's based partially on customer feedback, what we know the market wants, and also a design decision we've made"

3. This Is Amazon's First Smartphone

This would be Amazon's first foray into the already-crowded smartphone market. Apple and Samsung obviously are the industry leaders, with the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy lines. But, can Amazon break into the market? It'll be really, really, difficult; the Android market itself is already crowded with manufactures, including Samsung, HTC, LG, and potentially Google with the rumored Motorola X.

4. Amazon Bought Evi, a Siri-Like App

Recently, Amazon purchased Evi, a Siri-like service, according to TechCrunch. Here's what they said about the acquisition:

"TechCrunch understands from sources that the company has been sold to Amazon for $26 million. However, calls to Amazon PR, backers Octopus Ventures and the founders of Evi have ben met with a stoney silence. A spokesperson for Octopus told us: “On this occasion Octopus will decline to comment on this specific portfolio company.”

5. It Sounds Too Gimmicky

3D screen sounds like a great idea but honestly, it's really gimmicky and reminds me of the features in the new Samsung Galaxy S4. A 3D screen is something that I can imagine will get annoying after a little while as well. The proof that 3D screens don't work is in the pudding; HTC was so disappointed with the Evo 3D sales that they decided not to even make a follow up device. If something didn't work for one company, it's clear that there isn't really a market for it (Apple did manage to revive tablet technology after Microsoft butchered it, but Amazon's no Apple).
